Located at the western edge of the Mendip Hills, Churchill is situated on the A368, close to its junction with the A38 road from Bristol to Weston-super-mare. The village takes its name from the Churchill family, and the Duke of Marlborough, who had connections with the village. Located in the hundred of Winterstoke, Churchill is five miles from the nearest railway station at Yatton. It is in a valley in the beautiful Somerset countryside, near the old turnpike road leading from Bristol to Bridgwater. The church of St. John the Baptist contains monuments and a church brass and is in the perpendicular style of architecture, said to be the composition of the celebrated Dr. Donne. The village has four pubs to choose from, The Crown Inn, The Stag and Hounds, The Nelson and The Churchill.
