Colvend is a small village in Dumfries and Galloway in southern Scotland situated 20 miles from Dumfries, 6 miles south of Dalbeattie at the south-end of White Loch near the Solway Firth. The village is nestled on the scenic, quiet and unspoilt Colvend coast, it is a popular holiday destination ideally located for touring the attractions of Dumfries and Galloway, there is a hotel and B&B’s, a Holiday Park and a caravan park. Colvend has shops and amenities, a hall, school and an early church; the Colven Parish Church is a chaste early Christian church dating from 1911 set overlooking the Solway Firth. Walking and nature-watching are popular activities in the area with cliff, moor and forest walks, the Jubilee footpath passes the dark-age hill-fort, Motte of Mark, on route to Rockcliff Walk; a twelve mile strenuous walk to Sandyhills via Castle Point, there are also safe golden sandy beaches at Sandyhills and Rockcliffe. Colvend Golf Club has an 18-hole parkland golf course with the Southerness championship course only 5 miles away. The Bainloch Deer Park is nearby on Bainloch Hill and there is a Yaching Centre in Kippford approximately10 minutes away. Other attractions include the medieval Threave Castle and the beautiful Threave Gardens maintained by the National Trust for Scotland.
