Tywyn , five miles north of Aberdovey could be the base for a fabulous family holiday. Take a wide sweep of sandy beach, a long promenade, add numerous novelty shops and amusement arcades, traditional fish and chips, multi flavoured icecreams and a helping of stripy rock - if you have a nostalgic yearning for traditional seaside towns then Tywyn fits the bill. A visitor can be forgiven for thinking they have stepped back in time as the amusement arcades and pound shops can have a slightly sixties feel - some of them seem a bit of a dilapidated but don’t let first impressions fool you.. Venture slightly inland towards Machynlleth - the A487 will take you to The Centre for Alternative technology - a must see attraction for the eco- conscious and also to King Arthur’s Labyrinth both fun and educational. The wooded hillsides around Corris, the beautiful Tal- y Llyn Lake and the majestic Cadr Idris are all within easy reach. The energetic could perhaps play a round of golf at Fairbourne but the more sedentary will like the Talyllyn Mountain Railway - its route passing through stunning scenery ending at a railway themed playground at Abergynolwen. Brilliant.
