Whitebrook is a picturesque village (designated a conservation area) S.E of Monmouth in the lovely Wye Valley. - Many visitors choose to stay at the Crown Hotel a lovely C17th building with a Michelin starred restaurant or self cater at Stable Court or Horseshoes in nearby Dingestow – names like these suggest that this is “horsey” country and you can combine a stay here with a trip to Chepstow Racecourse. Keen walkers can explore part of the Offa’s Dyke path; others will like The Forest of Dean or the historic Norman three castles area: Grosmont, Skenfrith and Llanvetherine. WWII historians will know that Llanvetherine is famous or infamous as Rudolf Hess (Hitler’s deputy) used to feed the swans here, during his incarceration in a local mental hospital, following his flight from Nazi Germany. Nearby Tintern Abbey constantly attracts visitors to marvel at its beautiful surroundings. Those making a secular pilgrimage could search out local Rockfield studios – Founded in 1963 and still in use, this has hosted musicians as varied in style from Hawkwind to KT Tunstall. Queen recorded the first vocals for Bohemian Rhapsody here so keep an eye out who knows what future “Rock Gods” might be hanging about here.
