Mumbles is perhaps better known these days as an offshoot of Hollywood, than as a seaside suburb of nearby Swansea – Kathryn Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas have a home here and Paul Newman has been spotted promenading with the other visitors; who come to admire all that this lovely area has to offer. Overlooking Swansea Bay, Mumbles has a host of chic boutiques, gift and craft shops with plenty of good café bars and restaurants. For old-fashioned enjoyment take the little land train along the promenade but do watch out for the runners, cyclists and skateboarders taking their daily exercise. At the headland you can find traditional fish and chip shops and seaside amusements. Head down the pier to cross the rickety bridge and visit the Mumbles lifeboat station. You can also explore the extensive, local, country parks. But remember that the Mumbles is also gateway to The Gower peninsula – an area of outstanding natural beauty, full of charming villages where you can learn just about anything from archery to surfing - check out Gower Coast Adventures or pick up a copy of the Mumbles Activity Guide if you are stuck for ideas – but it’s very unlikely you will be!
