Wingfield is a quiet rural village positioned in the northern edge of the county of Suffolk, and is home to just over three hundred people. It has an intriguing history, and dates far back in time to the Saxon settlers who first arrived here. It became important when the Earl of Suffolk received permission to change his manor house into a fortified castle which once housed a portcullis and drawbridge in the 14th Century. Nearby will find the stunning church which was built on the site of an earlier church in 1362, visitors who stroll around the quiet lanes may just hear the peel of the six bells. Opposite the church stands an ancient pub which offers food and a warm welcome. There is the impressive Wingfield Green which spreads for forty acres, and is surrounded by Medieval houses and half timbered cottages, nearby the stunning countryside is full of footpaths which network across the area to the nearby borders of Norfolk. This is no shopping metropolis, as the nearest shops and post office is at Stradbroke, however the pub, church, and countryside can't fail to please, and for those visitors who wish to stay for a while longer there is a small choice of comfortable options.
