Otley is a small village lying in the heart of the Suffolk Heights, eight miles from Ipswich. The village is home to Otley Hall and Otley College. Otley Hall is a grade I listed 16th century moated hall, set in 10 acres of gardens. The house is now privately owned but available for a variety of functions and events. The gardens are open Wednesday afternoons from May to September and private guided tours of the house can be arranged at any time of the year. Otley College was originally created as an agricultural and horticultural College and covers 31 acres. It was established at its present site in 1970. The White Hart on Helmingham Road is the only pub in Otley, and is a freehouse serving food. Helmingham Hall Gardens are 2 miles away in Helmingham. The spectacular Grade I Listed Gardens are owned by the Tollemache family who have lived at Helmingham since 1487. The Park encloses 400 acres and has large herds of both red and fallow deer. There’s an historic walled kitchen garden, wild flower garden, Herb and Knot garden and a large rose collection. St Mary's Church stands on the edge of the Park and is known to have existed in 1258.
