Inverurie is an ancient town in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, situated 16 miles north-west of Aberdeen where the River Urie meets the River Don. Inverurie’s earliest known charter dates from 1558. Inverurie is well-known for two historic battles; Battle of Inverurie in 1307, where Robert I defeated John Comym the Earl of Buchan and the Battle of Harlaw in 1411. The earliest inhabitants date from the late Neolithic period, with an abundance of standing stones and stone circles across the area. Inverurie is a granite town with a mix of traditional and trendy shops, community hall, museum and library. There are many structures of architectural interest including the grey-stone Town Hall with Grecian details built in 1863 and the gothic St. Andrews Parish Church built in1840. To the east sits The Bass, a medieval motte and bailey built c 1100 and Kinkell Hall with traces of the Caskieben Castle, the ruins of the 16th century Kinkell Church lie to the south. Inverurie is a central location for touring Aberdeenshire and is a popular holiday resort, there are guided walks along the footpaths, and river walks around the Rivers Don and Urie; also popular for angling. There is a swimming pool, indoor bowling, clay-pigeon shooting and an 18-hole golf course.
