Aberlour is a village standing on the right bank of the River Spey in Moray, in the north-east of Scotland, situated between Inverness and Aberdeen, north of the Cairngorm National Park. Aberlour sits in the heart of Scotland’s Spey-side, famous for Malt whiskey production, trout and salmon fishing and the Walkers biscuit factory, well-known for their traditional Scottish Shortbread. The settlement grew on the site of the Church and Well dedicated to Saint Drostan, the village was developed in 1812 by Charles Grant of Wester Elchies and is officially known as Charlestown of Aberlour. Aberlour is a popular tourist resort; the scenic village has a Parish Church built in 1812 and a selection of shops in the High Street. Between the village and the River are an attractive riverside park and the Spey-side Visitor Centre with Tea Room which was once the Old Railway Station. There are pubs, hotels and holiday accommodation in the area and many historic attractions. To the west of the village is the Aberlour-Glenlivet Distillery, which uses the water from the St Drostan Spring to make their whiskey and is open to visitors. The area also attracts visitors who enjoy walking, climbing, golfing and angling.
