Kincraig is a traditional village in the Cairngorms National Park in the Central Highlands of Scotland, situated 6 miles north of Kingussie and 6 miles south of Aviemore, on the west bank of the River Spey as it flows through Loch Insh at its north end. Kincraig is an area of natural beauty with snow-capped mountains, lochs, many footpaths, cycle-trails and rare wildlife including; red squirrels and golden eagles. Kincraig is an ideal place for photographers, artists, walkers and nature-watchers. Interesting historical structures include Insh church beside Loch Insh dating c1700, there are ancient ruins, battle-sites and monuments around the area. Kincraig is a popular base for tourists it has a post office with store, pubs, restaurants, hotels, guest houses, B&B’s and a caravan and campsite. The surrounding estates are used for shooting, deer-stalking and fishing in the River Spey and in Loch Alvie. Nearby, Loch Insh offers water-sports and out-doors pursuits including; canoeing, sailing, archery, golf, orienteering and windsurfing. There is the opportunity to try Gliding at Feshie Airfield and The Alvie Estate has horse-riding, clay-pigeon shooting and 4x4 off road driving. Kincraig also has a Wildlife Park, a RSPB Nature Reserve and an Alpine Nursery. The neighbouring Cairngorms Mountains offer challenging walks, climbs and ski-slopes.
