Invergordon is a town and a major port in the Highlands of Scotland, situated on the north shore of the Cromarty Firth. Invergordon was once a small port and castle of Inverbreakie operating a ferry service to the Black Isle; during the 18th century it was bought, re-planned and re-named by William Gordon of Embo. The new larger harbour was built in 1828, making an excellent port with the sheltered deep water. During World War II Invergordon was used as a naval base for flying boats Invergordon currently prospers from the oil industry with the oil rig in Nigg Bay. Invergordon is famous as the most northern Estuarine Complex. The estuary is recognised internationally and provides sanctuary for bottlenose dolphins and numerous bird species. Invergordon is a popular visitor resort and an ideal central base for touring the Highlands; visited by fleets of Cruise and Cargo Ships offering excellent on-shore facilities and holiday accommodation. The town has a wide high street with a variety of shops, cafes and restaurants. There is an art centre, a leisure centre, a heritage centre and a naval museum, Activities include fishing, walking, cycling, go-karting, and golf. Invergordon has scenic views over the Firth, a stunning natural landscape and a beautiful place for sight-seeing.
