Auldearn is an historic village near the River Nairn, in the Highlands of Scotland, home to over five hundred and thirty people. Surrounded by dramatic Highland countryside, that walkers and artists adore with the views over the Moray Firth. For a link with the past why not take a look at the site of the Battle of Auldearn, where a bloody battle was bravely fought in 1645. Museum lovers are spoilt for choice with the Falconer Museum that has an eclectic mix of exhibits proudly on display, or the Nairn Museum which spans the pages of history with an intriguing collection. Perhaps the thought of a Fairy Tale castle, complete with a Drawbridge, Dungeon, and even a Maze will tempt a visit to 14th Century Cawdor Castle, where a tour will uncover fine furniture, paintings, and tapestries expertly woven. For architecture of a different kind there is the evocative ruins of Fortrose Cathedral whose red brick outline dominates the skyline. Or maybe a stroll along the prom at Nairn will put roses on cheeks, or take your seat on one of the many boat trips on offer where there is always the chance of seeing Bottle Nose Dolphins or Seals around Whiteness Bay.
