Wishaw is a thriving town in Lanarkshire in Scotland, and is home to over twenty eight thousand people. The town evolved and grew when several of the surrounding villages merged with the onset of coal mining, and the mining of iron ore which has played an important part in the town's development across the years. Also whisky distilling, together with the manufacture of lorries, and later steel production at nearby Ravenscraig which employed thousands and led to an increase in the houses built in Wishaw. The town is placed on the banks of the River Clyde and sits at the edge of the Clyde Valley, nearby Belhaven Park is at the western corner of Wishaw and offers another chance to enjoy the scenery. There is an interesting mix of architecture, from old mining cottages, modern buildings and the impressive 12th century church dedicated to St Nethan. A short walk will uncover a good choice of pubs dotted about, restaurants and bars to try, and interesting market to explore. Main Street will reward visitors with a variety of shops, there's also a range of hotels and B&B's for those who wish to stay a little longer in this historical pocket of Scotland.
