Stepps is a small historic town in North Lanarkshire in Scotland, a north-eastern suburb of Glasgow situated to the north of Garthamlock. The settlement was originally part of the Garnkirk Estate which developed with the arrival of the railway c1831; in 1924 the town officially changed its name to Stepps, adopting the same name as the station. The town currently consists of Stepps Village, Cardowan, Stepps Hill and Millerston. Stepps was once a mining town with the Cardowan Colliery and is associated with brass founding and whiskey blending. The town is a popular tourist destination and an ideal base for visiting the sites and culture of the city of Glasgow and surrounding areas with excellent transport links both by road and rail to all the tourist attractions. There are holiday accommodation, shops and amenities and a takeaway café. Attractions include the Motherwell Heritage Centre which tells the story of the history of North Lanarkshire. There are a number of parks in the area, the largest being the Strathclyde Country Park with water activities and scenic walks. The M and D Scotland Theme Park is a fairground with rollercoaster’s and rides for all the family. Nearby are the Dalzell Park, the Baron Haugh Nature Reserve and the North Calder Heritage Trail.
