West Linton is an attractive village positioned in Lothian on the Scottish Borders, and it is home to just over fifteen hundred people. It has a rich and fascinating history which stretches far back in time from the Iron Age Hill Forts set within the surrounding hills, the Cattle Drovers who passed through here, to the impressive 18th Century church dedicated to St Andrew which has intricate wooden galleries, and warm toned panelling adorning the walls. The Heritage Trail can be followed around the narrow streets first formed in Medieval times which will uncover the impressive stone clock tower in the Main Street which was crafted in the 17th Century. There are a few shops to browse, a large village green, and pubs offering a warm Scottish welcome and a dram or two, with a choice of restaurants nearby. Walkers are always drawn to the area with its dramatic and beautiful countryside which has a network of footpaths and cycle paths to share, and the two Hill ranges of Cloich and Pentlands to explore, and yet the village which was once famed for its weaving and fine boot making lies just 17 miles or so from the historic city of Edinburgh.
