Gullane is an ancient village in East Lothian in Scotland situated on the south shore of the Firth of Forth along the coast from Edinburgh, five miles west of North Berwick. The origins of the village date from c800’s with the building of a church, replaced by the Old Church of St Andrew in the 1100’s later abandoned in 1612 due to the blowing sands, the ruins still stand at the west end of Main Street. Gullane is a popular tourist resort and an ideal holiday location particularly for beach lovers and golfers, with ten golf courses all within five miles of the village, Gullane itself is home to four 18-hole golf courses including the well-known Muirfield where several Open Championships have been played, Gullane No1 course built in1884, the No2 course built in1898 and the No 3 course built in1910. The village Main Street has a variety of shops, hotels, holiday accommodation and places to eat out, the Gullane Bents is one of the most beautiful beaches in East Lothian; the beach is backed by sand dunes as it stretches round Gullane Bay coming from Gullane Point to Black Rocks, the Bay is also a popular spot for windsurfing. Attractions nearby include The Myreton Motor Museum and the Museum of Flight at East Fortune.
