Pitlochry is a small town, 24 miles north of Perth situated on the River Tummel, surrounded by scenic mountains, lochs and forests in Perth and Kinross, Scotland. The Rob Roy Way, a 79 mile walk ends with crossing the suspension bridge into Pitlochry. The town became a burgh in 1947. Pitlochry has been a major tourist centre in the Highlands for over 150 years due to the town’s most famous visitor, Queen Victoria, staying at Blair Castle in1842. Pitlochry is recognised as a Victorian Resort with 19th century stone buildings. Pitlochry is famous for picturesque surroundings and the Tummel Valley Hydro-electric dam, creating Loch Faskally, with a 310m Salmon ladder; visitors watch the salmon from an observation chamber. Pitlochrie is popular for hill-walking and climbing, fishing, boating and golf. Attractions include Blair Athol whiskey distillery founded 1798 and Scotland’s smallest distillery Edradour both have visitor centres. The Festival Theatre opened 1951. North-east stands Ben Vrackie, 841m high, further along is the remote Cairngorms mountain range. Glenshee Ski Centre is close-by. Pitlochry has a wide variety of hotels and tourist facilities more than any other town of its size, with many restaurants, pubs, inns and shops. To the north lies the House of Bruar retail complex.
