Lochearnhead is a village in Perth and Kinross, Scotland, 14 miles north of Callander, situated on the west shore, at the Head of Loch Earn. Nearby Ben Vorlich is a 985m peak with steep sides offering panoramic views of the surrounding area and beautiful loch it is visited regularly by climbers. Lochearnhead is an ancient village and tourist resort with scenic surroundings and interesting historical structures including a crannog on the Loch, indicating a settlement in the area for at least 2000 years. Originally the settlement grew from being a crossroads used by Scotland’s earliest inhabitants on route from Callander to Killin and along the Loch Earn road to Perth. Two miles east of the village stands the impressive 17th century Edinample Castle, Z-plan tower house. Arrival of the railway in 1870 brought a growth in the tourist industry, the main line closed in 1965, now the Railway station is a Scouts Station and very popular with visiting troupes. There are various holiday accommodation and hotels, north of the village shops is the village hall and church. Lochernhead is an ideal location for walking, climbing, fishing, scouting, waterskiing, canoeing, sailing and more.
