A small market town dating back to Saxon times, situated on clay hills in East Sussex, only 6 miles from Tunbridge Wells, was the hub of the iron Industry in times gone by. The town was granted a Market Charter by King Henry 111 in 1253. The magnificent church of St Peter and St Paul dominates the centre of the town with it’s impressive Norman Tower dating back 900 years, and a tall lean spire towering 130feet, is a must, the unusual iron grave slab memorials lays testament to the link in history with the Iron Masters that led to a great deal of wealth, their great Georgian houses still in the high street. For a fine day out, a must do, must see place is Bewl Water with a very wide range of activities, everyone in pleased from waterside walks, cycling, fishing, sailing and boat trips to canoeing, windsurfing and even rock climbing. Batt’s Wood is a heavily wooded wonderland where the pleasures of nature expound, the pathways can take you to Wadhurst Park where a large number of deer roam freely, whether you visit in Winter or Summer each season brings it’s beauty for you to enjoy.
