A Medieval market town set within the pretty countryside and still holds on to its past with winding lanes and historical buildings. One such famous building is Petworth House, a 17th Century mansion set within stunning and beautiful Deer Parks designed by Capability Brown. Turner’ immortalised it’s beauty in many of his paintings. Whether you visit to enjoy the magnificent house and it’s exhibits, or the park, time it right and you may also be able to enjoy a concert or open air theatre show or even a living history event. No visit would be complete without exploring the antique centre, which houses over 30 traders and hundreds of treasures.Petworth Cottage Museum is an old cottage and set up as it would have been in 1910 with cottage garden complete with it’s outside privy. Or if visiting churches are a must, there is a splendid example in St Mary The Virgin built in the 14th Century. Petworth is definitely worth visiting, whether it’s for the architecture, scenery or it’s close proximity to The River Rother, the weekly market or Bignore Roman Villa just 4 miles away, whatever the reason the outcome will be the same sheer pleasure.
