Fishbourne is an attractive village in the county of Sussex home to under two thousand people. It's surrounded by pretty countryside, yet is just a few miles from the cathedral city of Chichester and it's fabulous harbour. The pages of history are turned far back in time to before the Norman Conquest and the Roman occupation, a legacy of which can be seen today within the village, the stunning Fishbourne Roman Palace that slept, undisturbed until the 1960's when men digging a trench for a water main uncovered what was to be the largest domestic Roman building to be found in Britain, intricate mosaic floors, impressive architecture, underground heating systems, and a fascinating museum which retells the story, Centurians in full regalia, concerts, and even re-planted Roman gardens conjures thoughts of an ancient time. Artists may wish to capture the pretty church of St Peter and St Mary which has stood for seven hundred years over looking water meadows and the Fishbourne Creek, with gem coloured stained glass windows, an ancient bell, and treasures from centuries past will reverse time in a blink of an eye, pleasing walks, restaurants, and a chance to explore a village cloaked in history ensures visitors return again and again.
