This pretty village is only 13 miles from Eastbourne, and surprisingly only 60 miles from London. It’s a delight for walkers and cyclists with scrumptious sounding places close by as the Hamlet of Trolliloes and Gingers Green. There is much to see and do whether it’s a tipple in a local pub such as The Merrie Harriers built 1624 with an inglenook fireplace and beams, or travel approx 3miles to the simply magical Herstmonceux Castle with it’s romantic moat reflecting the castle like a mirror, the magnificent grounds and Science Centre completes this pleasurable experience. All Saints Church with it’s 12th century tower is opposite. If you like walking or cycling The ‘Cuckoo Trail’ has a ride of 19 miles from Horam to Herstmonceux and back to Horam. One of the most hypnotic places is Michelham Priory built in 1229, with swans gliding on the still waters of the Moat, which is the longest surviving Medieval Moat in England. Or the wonder of a working Mill, or Forge and Elizabethan Great Barn or how about a replica of an Iron Age Round House. Cowbeech and the fabulous surrounding areas is a bequest from times gone by waiting to be bestowed.
