Silsoe is a pretty village in Bedfordshire with a high street that boasts many architectural wonders, and home to 1650 villagers. For artists and photographer’s alike there will be no need to jostle for space, as there are 130 listed buildings to chose from. The village sits on the edge of Wrest Park Gardens, whose stunning expanse of 90 acres rewinds time to an elegant era, complete with Canal, and beautiful Orangery, the gardens were laid out over a period of a hundred and fifty years, and Capability Brown certainly made his mark, with marble fountains, delicious planting and endless avenues of walks to be enjoyed. Or perhaps a trip further back in history is wished for, then it will be granted at 11th Century Cainhoe Castle, although only earthworks are visible. For the lovers of the great outdoors Barton Hills Nature Reserve has an abundance of flowers and wildlife, with impressive vistas of deep valleys and grassy hills, why not climb up and join the Roman ‘Icknield Way’. Or be prepared to be impressed with a visit to Woburn Abbey, the magnificent façade will draw her visitor in, all set within a 3,000 acre Deer Park, of course there is also the wonders of the Animal Kingdom waiting to be shared.
