Flitwick is a small town in the heart of Bedfordshire dating back to Saxon times and was a Roman settlement. If the great outdoors pleases then Flitwick Wood, an ancient woodland offers enjoyable walks and magical scenery, if you time your visit right the bluebells unfold like a dazzling carpet and the scent of wild garlic lingers in the air. Or perhaps Flitwick Moor which is the largest area of Wetland in Bedfordshire, formed in ancient times, this Nature Reserve is home to many birds and iridescent dragonflies. Houghton House was built in 1621, a grand 17th Century Mansion in it’s day, although a shell of it’s former heyday it is an interesting interlude, and a delight for most artists. Or why not visit Wrestpark House which sits in 90 acres of pretty gardens, originally laid out in the 18th Century and later re-worked by Capability Brown, with it’s marble fountains and orangey, or how about an 11/12th Century Motte and bailey Castle, well the ruins of Cainhoe Castle is just a few miles away. With the Leisure Centre offering Swimming, trampolining, squash and badminton, or the host of shops and restaurants on offer Flitwick pleases it’s choosiest of visitors.
