Hurley is a picturesque village on the banks of the River Thames, set between Henley-On-Thames and Maidenhead, the remains of a Benedictine Monastery is still visible, together with St Mary’s Church, predominantly Norman with later additions turns back the clock, the west doorway with it’s stunning Norman Arch and zig zag moulding beckons many artists. ’Ye Olde Bell’ acted as a hostelry for visitors to the Monastery in 1135. Hurley Lock is full of history and wildlife, surrounded by woodland and home to Kingfishers, Herons, and Woodpeckers. Hurley is like a vintage wine, it should be relished slowly, but often.
