The town of Timperley lies between Altrincham and Sale with easy access to both Manchester and its ring road the M60 which provides access to the main motorway networks throughout the north west. In recent years this has become an extremely popular place to live as access to Manchester City Centre is now aided by the Metrolink, a regular tram link to the City Centre. Looking at Timperley today you would not believe that originally this area was the market garden for Manchester as much of what is now built on was used as agricultural land until well into the 18th century. It was the Industrial Revolution that was to change the area, at that time the mills of Manchester were at the height of production and pollution was a problem. Mill owners needed somewhere less polluted to live and it was to these suburbs that they turned. Altrincham, Timperley and Sale were areas relatively unaffected by this industrialisation and yet they were within easy reach of the mills on which the owners built their wealth and therefore they became ideal places to live. Close to the Bollin Valley with its river walks and cycleways it is easy to appreciate that today there are still commuters who whilst working in the City appreciate the almost rural setting of Timperley.

Somebody said to me, 'But the Beatles were anti-materialistic.' That's a huge myth. John and I literally used to sit down and say, 'Now, let's write a swimming pool.' - Paul McCartney
