St Merryn is a pleasing village positioned on the northern edge of Cornwall, and is home to nearly sixteen hundred people. The village is shrouded in history from the Iron Age Settlers who first came here, to the Normans who built a church here, although the church was eventually replaced with the 15th Century structure dedicated to St Thomas The Martyre which can be seen today. Inside the church will reveal interesting treasures and the changes that have taken place over time. The surrounding Cornish landscape cannot be ignored, and is woven into the village motto, seven bays for seven days, which hints at the stunning sandy beaches and fabulous secluded bays backed by sand dunes which entice visitors, whether swimming, surfing, or walking. There is a really good choice of restaurants to savour, cafes offering delicious cream teas, bars, and welcoming pubs, and there are even surf shops which offer the where with all for any would be surfers. A mix of architecture can be seen around the village with the attractive grey slate cottages which huddle around the church and date back centuries, to modern buildings. There are a clutch of B&B's, hotels and campsites nearby for those visitors who may be tempted to linger.
