St Mellion is a small village in South East Cornwall that is home to the internationally acclaimed Golf Course, designed by Jack Nicklaus. There is in fact two golf courses here, although the golf resort also has gym facilities and swimming on offer. Or if you enjoy canoeing then the river Tamar is only two miles away. The church of St Melanus is worth a visit, that is if you can leave the golf course, it’s Impressive tower has five bells. The patchwork greenery of the surrounding countryside is pure delight for hikers, or a little further afield is Buckland Abbey, this very special 700 year old building was home to Cistercian Monks when they settled in this quiet valley, later was sold to Sir Francis Drake in 1580, houses many treasures, there is even Tudor costumes that children can try on . Or perhaps Lanhydrock this magnificent country house has so much to see and do, with servants quarters, a delightful 17th Century Long Gallery, kitchens, drawing room and even Nanny’s bedroom what more could be asked for, perhaps an adventure playground and wobbly bridge, it’s all here. Whatever the reason for visiting the outcome will be the same sheer pleasure.
