Portreath is a small fishing port set in a valley on the north west Cornish Coast home to 1335 people. The beautiful cliffs offer stunning views and breathtaking walks, where seabirds soar and seals may be spotted in secret coves. The beach has a stream coursing through it where children explore the rock pools with surprised faces and surfers ride the swells expertly. The harbour although not as busy as in it’s heyday sees a small fishing fleet and colourful pleasure boats that keep many an artist or photographer occupied. The great outdoors may be explored via the cycle paths or why not walk along the South West Coastal Path as far as Godrevy Lighthouse, which stands forever watchful out at sea. With the rich links to mining a visit to the Camborne School of Mines and Geological Museum and Art Gallery will show interesting wonders. Or how about the Cornish Mines and Engines housed in an old Engine House tells the story perfectly, the Industrial Discovery Centre is also here. If all of this sounds a little quiet why not don your skis and visit Radnor Golf and Ski Centre whether you play the nine holes on offer or ski indoors the challenge is there to be accepted.
