Mullion is the largest fishing village on the Lizard, and is renowned for pilchard fishing and of course smuggling. The impressive 13th Century church of St Melan dominates the view, any visitor will be impressed by the Norman font or the intricately carved bench ends especially of Jonah and the whale. Mullion Cove is a pretty working harbour with links to Mullion Musket Men who had a gun fight with the crew of HM. Hecate. A walk along the stunning cliffs that inspire painters and authors will bring you to Poldhu Cove, where in 1901 Marconi conducted his famous experiment of transatlantic radio communications. The Mullion Meadows Arts and Crafts Centre has a wealth of lovely things on offer, most can be viewed being made on sight from chocolates, beautiful quilts to unusual jewellery. Or the Art gallery is home to over 80 Artists work. Further inland the remains of the Wheal Union Copper Mine offers an insight into Cornish Mining. Or close by is Lizard Lighthouse. Of course there are stunning cliff walks, unbeatable scenery and coastal views that will capture any heart, add together the colourful fishing boats and warm welcome and you have a recipe of unforgotten memories.
