Lizard Point is the most southerly point in Great Britain, known for it’s Serpentine stone a local rock veined with dark green, red and white, with pretty coves, rocky inlets and beaches, once home to smugglers and pirates, now to swimmers and surfers thankfully. The stunningly beautiful scenery is hard to beat in this area, whatever your preference it’s all here, from idyllic sandy coves to cliff walks with wild flowers, rocky inlets and villages or the enchanting view of seals, basking sharks and dolphins. The lighthouse built originally 1619 and later replaced in 1752 stands proud, warning ships of the dangerous waters. Lizard history is diverse, it was the point where the Spanish Armada was spotted in 1588, and Goonhilly Earth Station where the first transatlantic television pictures were received in 1962, the visitors centre is certainly worth the trip. Or maybe the delights of the National Seal Sanctuary, now houses not only seals but otters and other creatures where you are invited to watch them feeding, or sponsor one that it on the road to recovery. From smugglers to surf boards, the beauty and history of Lizard will capture your heart and make your visit an unforgettable one.
