Wickford is a bustling Market town in the county of Essex, and is home to over thirty two thousand people. The town dates far back into history, and saw the Saxon settlers and Romans here, a legacy of which still remains with Roman Mosaic floors and treasures under some of the houses within the town. From its humble beginnings of a small farming community it grew and swelled over the centuries. The River Crouch flows through the town where there is an eclectic mix of architecture lining the roads both modern and an elegant smattering from centuries past. The High Street is busy with a wealth of shopping choices on offer that will satisfy the most discerning visitor, and more shops are to be found in the Shopping Centre, although Wickford is only thirty miles or so from the busy metropolis of London. Visitors who enjoy walking can take a stroll close by at the Wickford Country Park which stretches for fifty acres, where a boardwalk and nature trails unveil pleasing wildlife, ponds and woodland. There are several pubs to try, and a range of restaurants offering tasty menus, and for those who wish to stay a little longer there is a choice of hotels and B&B's.
