Ilford is in the London Borough of Redbridge in East London. It is a suburban town situated 9 miles from Charing Cross. The council offices were originally in rooms above a shop in Cranbrook Road, but in 1901 a large town hall was completed in an ornate Renaissance style. The only complete skull of a Mammoth discovered in the United Kingdom was unearthed in 1860 at the site where Boots the Chemist now stands in the High Road. The skull can now be seen in the Natural History Museum. The eponymous photographic film and chemicals manufacturer Ilford Photo was founded in the town. A supermarket now stands on the former site. The Kenneth More Theatre and the smaller Cowan Studio is located in Oakfield Road. Located in the Central Library in Ilford is The Redbridge Museum. It has a range of exhibits covering the great age of Redbridge and admission is free. The Exchange is an indoor shopping centre housing over 100 shops. The mile long Ilford High Road also has a vast number of shops. There are numerous restaurants on the Cranbrook Road serving a range of international cuisine and many pubs with live music, notably The Cauliflower on Ilford High Rd
