Clacton–on–sea is on the East Coast of Essex, about 30 minutes drive from Colchester. The capital of the 'Essex Sunshine Coast', Clacton is a popular seaside town with long sandy beaches and seafront gardens. Most famous for the 19th century Clacton Pier (reputed to be the world's largest), it’s a family run entertainment pleasure Pier which has nineteen fairground rides for the whole family to enjoy, some of which are undercover. Six and a half acres of pier sits out over the North Sea, flanked by 7 miles of beaches. The town has something to offer everyone. As well as an award winning beach and the fun packed pier and amusements, there’s water sports and a newly refurbished leisure centre. Aside from all the daytime attractions, Clacton offers a varied and vibrant nightlife boasting two theatres, The Princes and West Cliff, as well as a plethora of pubs, clubs and restaurants to suit all tastes. If shopping is your thing, there is a good range of shops in the town centre, and nearby Great Clacton hosts a range of independent shops. Clacton Factory Shopping Village is a must, with shops offering discounts of up to 60% on high street prices. There is a market in Clacton on Tuesday and Saturday and a covered market Monday to Saturday, as well as the legendary Warwick Castle boot fair that takes place every Thursday and Sunday. Other attractions include the cliff top Holland Haven Country Park, unspoilt coastal grazing marshes with footpaths through meadows. You can walk to Frinton-on-Sea with access to beaches along the way. Enjoy a pleasure flight from Clacton Areo Club, the town's airfield. Clacton also boasts an array of events taking place throughout the year including a two day Air Show, Carnival and Jazz Festival. Essex Tourism - 0871 716 2199 Calls cost less than 10p per minute
