Bledington is a true Cotswold village lying six miles south west of Chipping Norton and two miles east of Stow on Wold. With Kingham Railway Station only one mile away it is very well connected to Oxford, London and Worcester. The village dates back to the ninth century when the manor belonged to monks from Winchcombe Abbey. St Leonard’s Church was built in the fifteenth century and the magnificent stain glassed windows are believed to be the work of John Puddle, the Westminster craftsman. The well known Kings Head Inn, a sixteenth century building, is famed for its good food and drink as well as its cricket team. The Inn overlooks the broad village green with ducks swimming in the baby River Coln. Traffic is warned of ‘ducks crossing’. The Oxfordshire Way runs through the village, running westward to Bourton on Water and Southeastwards to Bruern Abbey and Shipston under Wychwood. There are numerous good walks in the surrounding area. Bledington has a traditional style of Morris dancing.
