Froxfield stands three miles from Petersfield and is a parish containing several small hamlets including High Cross, Froxfield Green and Privett. Froxfield is situated on high ground with magnificent views of the dramatic hangers which are so typical of this part of East Hampshire. Sited on the highest point in Hampshire is the warm and welcoming Trooper Inn, one of the county's finest pubs. The Romans were one of the earliest inhabitants of the area, and traces of an encampment can be found in the south of the parish. Excavations have yielded many fragments of Roman pottery. An ancient earthwork is also apparent and is thought to have formed part of the boundary between the ancient kingdoms of Wessex and Sussex. Modern day Froxfield is your quintessential English village with an infant school, church and general stores, not forgetting the all important village fete held in the summer.
