The Borough of Fareham, on the Solent coastline between the cities of Southampton and Portsmouth, covers an area of almost 30 square miles with a population of 108,000 people. It is a prosperous, attractive community, the town boasting Georgian influences as well as modern developments. Strategically, it is an important commercial and business centre with major road, rail, sea and air links to London, the Midlands and Europe. Restaurants abound and Ferneham Hall offers shows, fairs, exhibitions and films, rugby, hockey and rifle clubs adding further entertainment. Farmers’ Markets are held monthly with two other street markets taking place weekly. There are 28 places of worship within the borough. With 435 listed buildings ranging from Portchester Castle (Grade I) and Cams Hall (Grade II*) to numerous other types of buildings, including timber framed houses, thatched cottages, and churches there is much history to explore - Westbury Manor Museum and Fort Nelson’s Royal Armouries Museum delve into Fareham’s past - as well as other pursuits. Explore the extensive Forest of Bere, visit Titchfield Haven for its wildlife, Portchester Castle’s Keep having stunning views of the Solent and Isle of Wight. The coastline’s diversity includes estuaries, saltmarshes, soft cliffs and shingle beaches.
