Eversley is a small village in the Blackwater Valley in the North East of Hampshire, and is virtually the quintessential English village with its village pond, cricket green, local stores and pubs providing the local residents and visitors alike with the typical village amenities. The village has an interesting history, the Chequers pub is said to date back to the 1600’s whilst there are a number of large country houses in the area some of which are still privately owned but others have been tastefully converted to satisfy the demand for apartment living in this rural and convenient location. He church here in Eversley is an interesting building, there is evidence that this location was a place of pagan worship well before the coming of Christianity, the church lies very much as it was built in the 18th century, off a country lane and surrounded by fields and trees – an idyllic and peaceful location. The church having a long association with the village’s most renowned resident, Charles Kingsley who was the Rector here for some 31 years and was responsible for founding the village school in the19th century. Charles Kingsley was also a notable author, naturalist and social reformer who wrote the novel Westward Ho which led to the founding of the town itself. Eversley is truly one of those places that must be visited and if you find yourself in the area then take time out to pay it a visit and appreciate what it has to offer.
