Dummer is one of the smallest villages in the County of Hampshire and at last count it was suggested that the local population may be as small as just 370 residents! The M3 motorway runs close to the village and this facilitates access to the larger towns around with Basingstoke, the administrative centre, just to the north of Dummer. Dummer had its first church in 1086, All Saints, and the oldest part of the church in existence today is the south doorway which dates from the 12th century when it was first chosen as a settlement, whilst the pulpit is said to date back to 1380. The village of Dummer was once a thriving village with a variety of trades based here and testament to those earlier industrious days are the Old Brewery and Old Forge together with the with the village well, today covered over, but with treadwheel is still there today. Some of you may be thinking that you have heard of the village before now and the reason is that Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York who was married to Prince Andrew came from this village where her father, Major Ronald Ferguson was time president of Dummer Golf Club.
