Damerham is a village close to the borders of Dorset and Wiltshire in the County of Hampshire that straddles the Allen River. It is a village that is mentioned both in the Domesday Book and the Anglo Saxon Chronicles, it has been a settlement since Saxon Times and is said to have been home to Aethelflaed, wife of King Edmund I who reigned around in the year 950. Until 1895 Damerham was part of Wiltshire, The Manor one of the most important estates in South Wiltshire belonged to Glastonbury Abbey for almost 600 years. Today the village is within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is therefore protected from developments, however the village retains its architectural heritage listing the Church of St George as a Grade I listed building while Court Farm is all that remains of the two manors that made up medieval Damerham. The village remains surrounded by some of the best countryside in Hampshire and with the village school and village hall there is a real sense of community here in Damerham that makes everyone feel welcome.
