Barton-on-Sea is a seaside village positioned in the county of Hampshire, on the south coast of England. It sits on the outer edge of the town of New Milton and links as far back in time as Prehistoric times, legacies of which are to be found with the fossils embedded in the cliffs which the area is renowned for. There is a mix of houses from across the years, together with old coast guard cottages which were built to house the men who fought the war against a huge smuggling ring of activity in the 19th Century. Holidaymakers are drawn to the area with its impressive shingle beach, and cliff top walks which have far reaching views across the Solent, to the Isle of Wight and the Needles. There are a few shops in Sea Road, and Marine Drive, tempting tea shops, a good range of restaurants and pubs nearby, and a Beach side Cafe with views to remember. Walkers may enjoy a stroll along the Coastal Path which journeys from Barton to Milford, or along the seafront where the Obelisk stands remembering the Indian Soldiers who were sent here during the First World War to convalesce. For those who wish to linger there is a pleasing choice of B&B's, cottages and a cliff top hotel to choose from.
