Symonds Yat is an unusual village in the Forest of Dean providing superb views over the Wye valley – it is split in two by the River Wye, with Symonds Yat West in Herefordshire and Symonds Yat East in Gloucestershire! There is a hand-pulled ferry across the River, which is the only direct link between the 2 villages. The area is prone to get busy as it is both a popular tourist haunt and activity venue, but parking is plentiful. There are Peregrine Falcons nesting on the cliffs, barn owls, foxes, badgers and fallow deer, as well as bluebell woods – there are designated paths allowing visitors access to the plentiful (and protected) wildlife. Symonds Yat Rapids play host to much canoeing and Kayaking. Nearby is the Museum of Mazes, a Butterfly Zoo, an amusement park, Goodrich Castle and the market town of Ross-on-Wye. There is much accommodation here – ranging from The Royal Lodge AA3star country hotel to Sterrett's Caravan Park and everything in-between, including The Saracens Head inn also serving food but with riverside guest rooms!
