Arguably the prettiest village in northwest Herefordshire, Eardisland is about 6 miles west of Leominster and a bridge nearby carries the B4529 road to Leominster over the River Arrow. The village grew up around a castle, the only indication of which now is a moated mound where the castle once stood (built to guard the road between England and Wales - the B4529). The river is lined with houses, boasting the oldest from the 14th century, with many half-timbered and timbered, hence the fact that Eardisland is on the Black & White Trail, created to encourage visitors to explore the wonderful countryside between Leominster and Kington. The village church of St Mary the Virgin dates from the Norman (12th) and 14th centuries but the tower collapsed in 1728, so the present tower is from 1760. The Dovecote is thought to be early 18th century and has been open to the public since 1999. Please note though, if out after dark, there is no street lighting in Eardisland. This is an ideal location for a relaxing country break, Shobdan light airfield is a few minutes drive away and there are various festivals in the area. There are 2 pubs offering good food and real ale. Accommodation includes the self-catering cottages of Overbush, The Stables and Arrow Lawn; aswell as Arrow Bank Holiday Park and Moat Edge B&B!
