Elstree is a village of under 2000 residents and is usually associated with Borehamwood, it’s much larger close neighbour. The High Street is part of the Roman Watling Street and the crossroads have been present since ancient times. The Elstree Aerodrome is a busy working airfield with a 656metre runway. It is home to about 120 aircraft and many related companies. It was originally part of the Aldenham estate but during WWII the concrete runway was laid and the aerodrome developed. The main feature of Elstree is Aldenham Country Park with 175 acres of woodland, a reservoir, fishing, sailing, rare breeds, play areas, refreshments and it plays host to events such as craft fairs. The park is open every day. There is a Golf and Country Club, including an 18-hole par 73 course that incorporates various streams and lakes. The club also provides a putting green, floodlit driving range, snooker, darts, a large restaurant and ample parking – a perfect venue for weddings, as is the Corus Hotel. Staying in Elstree means countryside surroundings but with quick, easy access to London, as it is situated ideally for the A1M, M1 and M25.
