A town that has seen massive growth in the last century (due mainly to it’s position near the capital and the railway network) is Chorleywood. This commuter-belt town is nestled on the edge of the Chilterns in a small valley on the Herts/Bucks border and vibrant Watford is 5 miles away. As such, transport links are excellent being on the Metropolitan Line of the London Underground and junction 18 of the M25 is here. There are a lot of places to stay in nearby Rickmansworth or Watford itself. Chorleywood has B&Bs to offer – Ashburton Country House and Anstey Grove Barn. Settlement here dates back to the Palaeolithic era, was prominent in Roman times, was famous for its Quakers and is today an affluent area. The western district of Chorleywood was found to be the neighbourhood in England with the highest quality of life by a 2004 government survey. Local shopping provides a mix of independants, larger stores, restaurants and pubs. These places are surrounded by coutryside, offering walking, horse riding and cycling, as well as Chorleywood Common – 200 acres of wooded common land incorporating a 9-hole golf course/club and a cricket pitch.
