Barnet is a Borough of North London in an elevated position, bordering Hertfordshire and is served by the Northern and Piccadilly Lines of the tube network, as well as having the M1 & other major A-roads running through it. There are many places to stay within the Borough, to suit all budgets and various collections of small shops, cafes, bars, etc. This highly accessible Borough is within easy reach of countryside too, although there is the Welsh Reservoir, nature reserves and 2 main parks - Ravenscroft Local Park and Barnet Recreational Park. There are also a selection of golf courses in the area. The Brent Cross Shopping Centre was the first of it’s kind in the UK in 1976 and was named after the River Brent, which runs through the site. The centre has Fenwicks, John Lewis’, H&M and Boots amongst other big names. And its car park was used in the filming of the James Bond film, “Tomorrow Never Dies”! High Barnet is home to the Odeon cinema, the Barnet Museum (opened in 1938) and the traditional Barnet Fair. The Fair dates back to 1588 when Queen Elizabeth I granted a charter giving Barnet the right to hold a twice yearly fair. There is also East Barnet Festival of arts, music and sports for 2 days in late June.
