Apsley is a town a mile from Hemel Hempstead old town, in the valley of the Chiltern Hills in Hertfordshire, famed for it’s history of Paper Milling and being the location of the first commercial Paper Mill. This interesting town has much to offer it’s curious visitor from canal walks, or a tour around St Mary’s in the old town which dates back to the 12th Century, the 200’ spire dominates the skyline and is one of Europe’s tallest. Maybe stroll around the Marina stepping over the Artists as they try to capture the colourful sight of the Narrow Boats, or climb aboard for a trip on the Grand Union Canal on your way to see the intriguing Paper Mill. For those fascinated by history the Roman town Verulamium nearby has impressive remains of a theatre that seated several thousand, but this is just a taster of what there is to see from recreated rooms, fascinating coins, armour, and magnificent Mosaics, time it right and be amazed at the Roman soldiers who show what life was really like… or maybe Redbournbury Water Mill which dates back many centuries will grant any wish to see a working Mill grinding flour in picturesque surroundings.
