Chiddingstone is a village and civil parish in the Sevenoaks District of Kent. The parish is located on the River Eden between Tonbridge and Edenbridge. The village is thought to take its name from a large sandstone rock formation, situated on its outskirts, named the Chiding Stone. Chiddingstone is unique in that, apart from the church and the Castle, the entire village is owned by the National Trust. It is described as being "the most perfect surviving example of a Tudor village in the county". Stonewall Park to the south and Bore Place to the north of the village were originally also Tudor country manors. Stonewall Park is a family home and the Castle and Bore Place are now owned by trusts. Chiddingstone village centre contains a store, the church, an antiques shop, a school and the Castle Inn. The site of the parish church, dedicated to St Mary, dates back 1000 years. In the churchyard is a mausoleum dating from 1736, with wooden benches that run round wood panelled walls. There are several nature reserves in the area including: Sevenoaks Reserve and Jeffery Harrison Visitor Centre, Bough Beech Visitors Centre and Chiddingstone Reserve, all operated by Kent Wildlife Trust. Penshurst Place, Hever Castle and Knole are all close by.
