Slaidburn is an unspoilt village positioned in the picturesque Ribble Valley, in the County of Lancashire, and is home to over two hundred and eighty people. It dates back many centuries, a legacy of which remains with the Bronze Age Burial site found behind the 15th Century church, which is dedicated to St Andrew. Agriculture played an important role and a corn mill was built in Medieval times although it was restored in 1912. The 18th Century saw an increase in the previously declining population with the coming of the Weavers; rows of sandstone, and limestone houses, and cottages were built for the agricultural workers and weavers many of which remain today. A walk around the narrow lanes will uncover grey stone buildings from across the ages, a village green which was once home to fairs in Medieval times and a delightful bridge that has stood the test of time. There are a handful of shops and an impressive 18th Century Inn which stands at the heart of the village which was once used as a court room for the Forest of Bowland. Walkers are drawn to this stunning location, close to the Hodder River, where a network of paths journey across ancient moorland, and the Bowland Fells where dramatic scenery and waterfalls are discovered.
