Bolton le Sands is to be found in the North West of England in Lancashire on the shores of Morecambe Bay on the Kent estuary. Its history stretches as far back as the Domesday Book where it is referred to as Bodeltone. The village was, in times long gone, involved in fishing however the tidal flow created shifting sands in Morecambe Bay and fishing and the other maritime activities that were carried out were no longer viable. The town benefits from relatively easy access to the M6 (Junction 35) prior to the M6 by passing the town it was in earlier times on the principle road between Lancaster and Carlisle. Around 1772 the Lancaster Canal was built and this passes alongside the town. The railway was built in the mid 1840’s following the coastal route passing between the village and the estuary but the nearest railway station is at Carnforth approximately one and a half miles away. Today there is just one 17th century building still standing, originally built as a grammar school in 1637 today it is the Bolton le Sands Primary School. Bolton le Sands is not a large town but it does have a strong sense of community and the annual Gala attracts many of the residents and their families for an enjoyable day out. Like all holiday resorts though the summer sees the local population grow as visitors are attracted to the area to enjoy this seaside resort.
